Thursday Travel : Travel with Home Decor in Mind

2:44 AM

Every time I'm heading off to my next travel destination, I'm already thinking what I can buy or find to bring back home. I had the habit to buy magnets to put on the fridge with the name of the place on it. I don't do it anymore, because at some point you will not see the fridge anymore. For the past year, as we are living in our own brick build house, when going to vacation I brought back pieces of nature that I can't find here on the island or a vintage style beer bottle. So, what do you like to bring back that can add value to your home? Here are some tips.

1. NATURE PIECES
I've came back with some PINE CONES. I've painted some of them white and put them in a vase. If you live in the coldest land ever and you don't see the sun or sea, than the change is high you haven't seen a beach lately. So if you travel to a place with great beaches (like Curacao..wink wink), gather some SEA SHELLS or other beach pieces for you home decor. Both are easy to but in your handbag (if of course you pick smaller pieces). And the greatest part: IT'S FREE!!!
The fun part starts when you get home and place them in your home. You can make them your original piece by giving them a small paint job. I can really see that sea star have some gold.

2.  BUY OR FIND ITEMS THAT TELL OR HAVE  A STORY
That little vintage suitcase you saw on a flea market, you can use as storage or that beer bottle that can work as a vase. The possibilities are a lot. So be creative and see beyond what is standing in front of you. And of course if you HAVE TO HAVE the item, you can also ship it :)

3. SIGNS, POSTERS or PIECE OF ART
Signs and posters are also a great way to have you vacation back in your home. Rocking a cool design from the place you are visiting. A license plate from the country is also great to hang in the bathroom (in the number 1 & 2 area) or in the kitchen. This is a great way to support the local artists.

4. SELF TAKEN MEMORIES
Ofcourse you have your own beautiful pictures taken as memories from your travel relaxation. Print some pictures and make them part of your art wall.

Well, that's it. What do you like to take back home?
