It's been a while, but I'm back again with a some words for Bloggers Group Hug. Little Miss Jade gave us the word SHE to work with.

She is awesome. She's free in the Caribbean sea, after a shopping spree, surrounded by humming bees, sipping on some tea. But do you agree, without she having a degree from the LA P.D.? She's trapped in her own dreams, so please give her a key to set her free so she can go sit in a tree after scratching her knee on the tree, she can enjoy the view of the sunset at the east China sea.

Beside planning a trip to Europe this year (I really hope it will go through), I wanted to go a long weekend to New York. It's been 9 years since I've been there and it's always a great idea to visit NYC, right?! But the down part is that most of the good places to stay can be a bit pricey, so I decide it to check out Airbnb. A friend give me the heads up to check them out for when we are going to Europe. On this site you will find hundreds of rooms or homes from people all over the world, who could like to rent their homes with you. But I'm always intrigued to see how and where the people behind a company works. Lets check the headquarters office that is located at San Francisco.
This place is huge so I picked out the spaces that really attracted me. Can you imagine going to work in a space that gives you a home feeling? Going from home to home? It's indeed a cleaver idea, as we spent 8 hours or more at the office. And when you're sitting in a dull office, believe me, it sucks the life out of you.
Working daily more that 8 hours will get to your creativity also. So they designed the space with loads of space that will trigger you creativity. Even is it just a stroll down the hall.
It must be hard work holding down such a great website with millions of people on it to rent their homes and you would have to have a great staff to make everybody happy. So to let the customers feel happy, your staff must be happy and in a mood as well. I say, well done to this Gensler designers. Have you ever wondering how the working space of the Airbnb staff looks like? What is your favorite space?

One of the first Scandinavian style shops I found a few years back was Bloomingville. I immediately fell in love with this style and never looked back. Bloomingville started in the year 2000 in Denmark. To bad I didn't know about them then. I went in 2003 to Copenhagen and it's a beautiful city. Bloomingville started with only 2 employees and it developed into a thriving business with a team of 40 employees now and 40 agents in Europe. More about their uniqueness of how they make their products, click here.
I really love the simplicity and a bit of rawness of the furniture. The wood pieces have a back to basics kind of feeling. Check out their new Spring/Summer Collection 2015.
Great collection, don't you think? What is your favorite piece?

I had a tiny piece of the wall infront of me at my workspace at home as my inspirational board. I taped everything with washi tape. But when I redesigned the space and we painted the walls, I had to take everything off the wall again. That part of the wall wasn't very clean anymore. I eventually liked the idea of not taping nothing on the wall as it give me a none permanent feeling. I'm planning to buy a canvas frame and making that my inspirational board. That will keep your wall clean and it always easy to change your inspiration. If you like that idea, how about these ideas below?

Don't you love these none permanent ideas for an inspirational board? Easy to maintain and to replace.

I wanted to start a short series about the great stores and brands from Scandinavian roots. I really love the simplicity of the design. So today I wanted to focus on one of my favorite stores, H&M or Hennes & Mauritz. When I lived in the Netherlands I bought most of my clothes there. How can you avoid the awesome sales? I can go back each day and find something great to wear. So when I heard they got a H&M Home, I was so excited. The furniture & decor pieces are very affordable (like their clothing). H&M Home was launched in 2009 and with all the greatness of clothing design passing over to interior design.

Seriously?! Don't you want to go and buy the whole store? I don't think this leather sofa is part of the collection, but I'm really crushing on it. Would fit perfectly in my home, if you recall my dilemma a few weeks back. What is your favorite piece of the new H&M Home Collection?

So I just turned in my second assignment and like assignment 01, I got an A+. I'm really happy and it keeps me on track to make more time to finish this course as soon as possible. The assignments are actually pretty do-able. I think it's because my daily 8-5 day job evolves around interior designing and architecture. I'm doing this course just to keep my creative flow going. So I wanted to share assignment number two with you today.
The assignment was to pick a room in your home and name every material that is in that room. So I picked our kitchen, because I just love the simplicity of it. We have the less is more concept in our home, so except flowers, there is really nothing on the top. The only thing that I'm still searching for is a big clock (train station style) to hang against the wall.
So let me break it down for you:
the FLOOR:
The floor finish is a floor tile with a wood pattern. It's a ceramic tile with a 60x60 cm format. The structure of the floor itself is poured concrete with steel reinforcement ofcourse. The thickness of the floor is 12 cm and then with a finishing floor of 5 cm thick, floor tile included.
the WALLS:
The walls are constructed with 6" hollow cement blocks. The walls were plastered and then we put a layer of joint compound in order to make the walls even smoother to paint them over. We choose a light grey color form Valspar (I'm sorry, I really don't remember the color code). For the whole house, inside and out, we used only paint from Valspar. They really have a good quality.
the CEILING:
The ceiling consists of wooden lath and plasterboard. The plasterboard is 12,5 mm thick. We added also a layer of joint compound to smooth the connection between the boards to eventually paint them all white (also white paint from Valspar). The ceiling was painted white to brighten up the space and make the ceiling look higher, as it's only 2,40 m high. To make the connection between the walls and the ceiling look perfect, we added a wooden (redwood) molding. The molding was sand downed and then painted them white (also with Valspar).
the WINDOWS:
The idea behind the windows was to have wooden look-a-like windows without really having the headache of the care of wooden windows. So we bought aluminium windows with wood color. It's so cool, because it's so easy to clean and maintain. And everybody at first glance really think that they are made of wood.
Instead of solid glass, we choose for shutters and I'm not big of having curtains all over the house. And it's a big window cleaning saver.
the KITCHEN:
The kitchen cabinets are MDF, but the rest is particle board. We have no problem with it so far. No leaks no crisis. The top and back-splash are made of white corian (glacier white to be exact). We bought some stainless steel sinks from Ikea and the rest is all bought locally.
That was assignment number 2: Know the materials that the space is build from. As an interior designer it's a good fact to know this things before you go and change everything.
Do you know the materials of your home? Did you build it yourself or renovated it?
I would love to hear it from you in the comments below.
There are two things missing in my home, a sofa and a dining table with some awesome chairs. We don't really have a separate dining room, it's just an extension of the living area. I would like a table with a chunky wooden top. Maybe steel legs. Not to be big, just enough for 6 people can sit around it. A dining table will also be a great place to work sometimes, when I want to look outside and get inspiration from outside and feeling the wind coming through the windows. So I went searching for some inspiration. How do you like these?

Eventually it's going to be a custom made dining table, as it would be difficult to find one exactly like I want. Which one did you prefer?
